Joshua K. Ellis

Welcome to my website!

Hello, my name is Joshua Kawika Ellis

My middle name 'Kawika' is Hawaiian which means David.  This name was influenced by my Mom's side of the family which is part Hawaiian.  My Dad and his family are from Florida.

I will be coming to spend the Summer and Fall semester of 2009 in Taiwan and I can't wait to meet you!  Here's a little bit about myself.

 Family:

I have two sisters:  Jessica who is 16 years old and Judy who is 8 years old. They are living together with my Mom and Dad in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

I was born in the United States Oct. 1, 1986 in Georgia. As a result of my Dad's job as a salesman for Caterpillar Systems,  I grew up in many places in the United States.  I have lived in Hawaii, Guam, North Carolina and finally Iowa which is where I go to college at Iowa State University.

 Education and Career Interest:

I'm studying to get my Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and I'm planning to graduate after Spring Semester 2010.  My emphasis of study is VLSI because I really enjoy analyzing and building circuits which is influenced mostly by my class laboratory assignments and my previous internship at Rockwell Collins, an avionics company that creates airplane systems and other government projects. I plan to get a job after college in a Design position.

Some of my activities and hobbies:

In my free time I enjoy hanging out with friends playing Nintendo Wii (favorite games is Wii Sports and MarioKart).  I also enjoy watching Japanese anime, my favorite being One Piece and Dragonball Z.

I'm also active in the Iowa State University Student Branch of IEEE.  I've served on multiple positions.  One as the Relay Newsletter Editor which contains articles written by students about current technology, department news, club sponsored events and committee work.  I've also helped out with the club's project which is a sound system project with homemade speakers, an amplifier, and a Theremin Instrument!  I'll post a link as soon as the new site gets up for more of the details on the club.  I spend a lot of time working with this group.  The last way I'm involved is that I'm the Membership Chair.  This carries the responsibility of making sure the email lists are updated and creating new ideas to increase membership within the organization.  Some projects include updating our bulletin board and working with the other committees to incorporate some level of recruitment in all club events.
